Flu Vaccination Information

The flu vaccine is the single best way to protect against influenza illness, including H1N1.

H1N1vaccine is produced in the exact same manner, by the same manufacturers, as the regular seasonal flu vaccine.   The only difference is the virus in the vaccine.

Every year the seasonal flu vaccine targets the three most commonly circulating flu viruses.   This vaccine is made in the winter months preceding the flu season i.e. Seasonal flu vaccine for the winter months 2009 - 2010 was being manufactured in December 2008.    As H1N1 did not appear until April 2009 it was to late to be included in the seasonal flu vaccine this year, hence the need for a separate vaccine.   Flu vaccines, including the H1N1 vaccine are among the safest vaccines made.    (Please refer to the WCPHD school portal web site for further information on H1N1 or to the PDF on frequently asked questions about about H1N1).
