Property/Casualty Insurance
The district is a member of the Metropolitan Association for Improved School Legislation (MAISL) Joint Risk Management Trust. The Trust is a group self-insurance program that provides our property, casualty, liability, and auto coverages.
MAISL has retained Gallagher Bassett Services, Inc. to administer the self-insurance program for member districts.
If an incident occurs please complete the appropriate form immediately after the incident and submit it to your building principal or program director. Completed forms should be forwarded to the Business Office. Do not submit directly to MAISL/Gallagher Bassett.
Serious losses such as large property damage, serious student injuries, serious vehicle accidents, or notification of lawsuits should be called in to Gallagher Bassett, 24 hours a day, at (248) 352-1062. Your immediate reporting to a Gallagher Bassett claim representative is critical to containing claim costs. Prompt reporting allows the adjuster to begin the investigation, visit sites, institute emergency repair and hasten the return to normal operation of the district. This should be followed up with a written claim report as soon as possible.

Personal Property Losses
Employees who experience a personal property loss can file a Personal Property Loss Claim Form. All claims will be reviewed at the end of the school year for possible reimbursement.
Personal Vehicle Usage
While we discourage staff from driving students, occasionally situations arise when it becomes necessary. Prior to driving students, a background check must be obtained to assess the driver's driving record.
When you have an upcoming situation where you will be driving students, submit a copy of your driver's license to Human Resources, along with a note explaining why and how often you are transporting students. This should be done each school year for continued monitoring.

Student accident insurance
Dexter Community Schools' insurance policy does not cover student injuries. Because medical care can be expensive, Dexter Community Schools offers families the option to purchase student accident insurance through Student Assurance Services.
This supplemental policy can help reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses—such as deductibles—if your student is injured in an accident while the coverage is active. For families without existing insurance, this policy can serve as primary coverage for accidental injuries. A range of coverage options is available, and premiums are paid once for the entire school year.
Please take a moment to watch the brief video linked below and review the attached forms for more information about student accident insurance.
