Technology

Families may purchase optional insurance for their school technology devices between August 1st and September 30th each year. Here is the link to purchase insurance or pay a deductible for a repair. 

This optional insurance protects you from having to pay the full price of the repairs if accidents should occur. The Power Adapter is not covered under the optional insurance. Dexter Community Schools is a 1:1 device district, which means we provide each student with a device to use at school (and home, depending on the grade). 

Anchor/Beacon (grades Y5-2):

Apple iPad Air – Each student receives their own iPad that they use in class.

Wylie (grades 3-4):

HP G7 11" Chromebook – Each student receives their own Chromebook that they use in class.

Creekside (grades 5-6):

HP G6 11a Chromebook – Starting with fall 2020, each incoming 5th grade class will receive a new Chromebook that will follow them through 8th grade. The device will go home everyday with the student and will not stay at school. 

Mill Creek (grades 7-8):

HP G4 14" Chromebook – Each student receives their own Chromebook that they take home every night.

Dexter High School (grades 9-12):

MacBook Air 11", HP G4 14" Chromebook, HP G7 11" Chromebook, iMac 21.5" Labs –Each classroom either has a MacBook or Chromebook cart with a device for each student. Graph X, Newspaper, and Yearbook classes have iMacs in their classroom. The media center has Chromeboxes (desktop version of a Chromebook) available for students to work on assignments or to print from.

The Acceptable Use Agreement is now located in PowerSchool forms. Families were emailed information about completing the back-to-school forms including the AUP on August 22.The text below is a summary of what the agreement contains.

To access e-mail and/or the Internet at school, students under the age of eighteen (18) must obtain parent permission and must sign and return the Student Network and Internet Acceptable Use Agreement Form. Students eighteen (18) years and older may sign their own forms.

• Use of the Internet is a privilege, not a right. The Dexter Community School District’s Internet connection is provided for educational purposes only. Unauthorized and inappropriate use will result in a cancellation of this privilege.
• The Dexter Community School District has implemented technology protection measures which block/filter Internet access to visual displays that are obscene, child pornography or harmful to minors. The District also monitors online activity of students in an effort to restrict access to child pornography and other material that is obscene, objectionable, inappropriate and/or harmful to minors. Nevertheless, parents/guardians are advised that determined users may be able to gain access to information, communication and/or services on the Internet which the Dexter Community School District has not authorized for educational purposes and/or which they and/or their parents/guardians may find inappropriate, offensive, objectionable or controversial. Parents/Guardians assume this risk by consenting to allow their students to participate in the use of the Internet.
• Students accessing the Internet through the school's computers assume personal responsibility and liability, both civil and criminal, for unauthorized or inappropriate use of the Internet.
• The Dexter Community School District has the right to monitor, review and inspect any directories, files and/or messages residing on or sent using Dexter Community Schools’ computers/networks. This also encompasses the District’s Google Apps for Education on and off the Dexter Community Schools’ computers/networks. Messages relating to or in support of illegal activities will be reported to the appropriate authorities.
• Parents must review and agree to the Student Network and Internet Acceptable Use Policy in PowerSchool as part of the back-to-school forms completion each fall.
