The Dexter Athletic Department recognizes outstanding Dexter student-athletes with the Athlete of the Month program. Each month, one female and one male student-athlete who has shown a combination of outstanding performance, leadership, and/or exemplary effort will be recognized. Head coaches make nominations for their student-athlete(s), then recipients are selected by a committee of Dexter administrators. Congratulations to our April Athletes of the Month!
Junior Lacrosse player Dawson Waddington exemplifies what it means to be a student-athlete. He's a dominant all-around player on the field and an honor student off of it (4.25 weighted GPA). His leadership and production throughout the year was key to the team’s regular season 15-1 record and fifth-straight SEC championship. In 16 games, Dawson contributed 44 goals and 21 assists. In the 19-1 playoff victory over Chelsea, Dawson had two goals and two assists.
Head Coach Justin Mambro said, “Dawson is a driven competitor. His intelligence, leadership, and high standards push both himself and his teammates to succeed every day and he is key to us taking this program further than we’ve ever been.”
Now in the post-season, the expectations Dawson has for the team and himself have never been higher as they make a run at a state championship. Go Dreads!
Varsity softball player Clara Lamb is a true team leader. A senior, she has hit 14 home runs this season, including a clutch Grand Slam! She leads the team in batting average (.505), slugging percentage, hits, doubles, triples, home runs, and RBIs. On the mound, she is a dominant pitcher with 76 strikeouts on the year.
Clara is also a member of the Iron Dread Powerlifting team and placed in the top ten in the state in her weight class. On top of all of her athletic pursuits, she carries a 4.19 weighted GPA.
According to Head Coach Tim Kimball, “Clara always brings a positive attitude and sets a high bar for herself and her teammates.” She will be playing softball at Case Western Reserve University next year.
