At the August 26th DCS Board of Education Meeting, Executive Director of Instruction Ryan Bruder updated Trustees on summer learning in the district, including virtual reading tutoring for K-6th grade students. Seventy-five students met with their reading tutors two times a week for nine weeks over the summer.
The District also partnered with Varsity Tutors for the first time this year, which provided free synchronous and asynchronous virtual learning opportunities and tutoring for students in grades K-12. Students received tutoring on a variety of individualized topics including everything from creative writing to math to SAT prep to personal enrichment.

In addition to these two programs, DHS senior Conner Masterson established an in-person math tutoring program for middle grade students. Recruiting NHS students, Conner and the tutors met with approximately twenty fifth through eighth grade students for 45 minutes per day, four days a week, for five weeks. Participating DHS students were Lydia Baur, Andrew Boydston, Arman Buyukbozkirli, Olivia Croftchik, Carly Gramling, Lauren Hart, Marcus Keeler, and Conner Masterson.
Summer tutoring programs such as these provide students with an invaluable opportunity to reinforce academic skills, catch up on challenging subjects, and stay mentally engaged during the break. Whether for enrichment or remediation, summer tutoring empowers students to start the new school year with a stronger foundation and a renewed sense of readiness.
