Hello Mill Creek Families,
Camp is going very well out in Napoleon. Last night, students participated in a campwide scavenger hunt with their groups for the evening activity. Groups of kids were scouring the whole camp property together for different items. As the staff watched the kids pace, we could tell they were starting to “run out of gas.” This is usually a good indicator that things will go well at “lights out.” Last night overall went really well with students sleeping at camp for their first night.
They woke up this morning and were pretty impressed with breakfast. They got a blueberry breakfast loaf (as well as alternatives) and it received rave reviews. The kids described it as a “hot flame emoji”. Which I’m told is high praise. With the lack of tech access, kids have to describe emojis verbally rather than send them in a text.
Kids engage in a variety of activities throughout their time at camp during the day. These experiences include things like a climbing wall, archery, horseback riding, and interactive games. The evening activity tonight will be “Predator/Prey.” A simulation game that resembles a giant game of “hide and seek” that ties in ecology. Many kids talk about how this is one of their favorite activities at camp. The mood with campers, parent volunteers, and staff is currently very good.
The first night is always the hardest, and that’s over. Kids start to gain confidence this second day and get into a groove. All in all, we are really pleased with how things are going at camp. Ryan Bruder, Melanie Nowak, and Barb Leonard came out from central office today to help out with camp. This is a big community event that takes a lot of hands. We appreciate that Dexter Schools and the community has always made this a priority for many, many years.
We will send an update tomorrow. Remember, no news is good news at camp!
Thanks,
Brett and Katie
