Winter Is Here
Winter arrived a bit late, but Michigan is making up for it fast! Our goal is always to keep students in school, with safety as the top priority. During winter weather events, district staff work closely with WISD, county partners, road crews, and local meteorologists—and personally check main and back roads late at night and early in the morning—to ensure buses and vehicles can travel safely.
End of First Semester
Snow days always seem to find us at semester’s end! Thank you to our staff, students, and families for your flexibility as we wrapped up the first semester. The academic, social, and emotional growth across the district has been impressive, and we hope families take time to reflect and celebrate their Dreadnaught(s).
Kindergarten & Young 5 Info Night
We’re excited to welcome the next class of Dreadnaughts! Kindergarten and Young 5 Info Night will be held virtually on February 10 at 6 p.m. Building administrators will share what families can expect. This is paired with a Scavenger Hunt on February 17 from 5:30–6:30 p.m. at the Dexter Early Elementary Complex.
Schools of Choice
The DCS Schools of Choice application window is February 16–27 for students entering Young 5 through 11th grade. (Grades 9–11 must enroll in the IB program.) Current SOC families do not need to reapply for existing students, but new siblings will need an application.
CTE Update
CTE millage funds approved last November will be collected with summer taxes and will be available starting in the 2026–2027 school year. A detailed update from WISD is attached.
2026–2027 School Calendar
We know families are planning ahead! The 2026–2027 school year will begin on Tuesday, September 8—after Labor Day. The WISD common calendar outlines Winter and Spring Breaks.
Academic Programming Videos
Families asked for more insight into DHS programs, and we’re excited to share a new DHS Academic Programs video playlist. These short videos complement Curriculum Night and course listings and provide a helpful overview of our offerings. More videos are coming—stay tuned!
WISD Family Engagement Survey
WISD, in partnership with Hanover Research, invites families and staff to complete a brief, anonymous survey on family engagement. The survey is open February 2–27, 2026, takes about 10 minutes, and helps guide regional improvement efforts. Survey link.
Thank You, Coach!
After nine outstanding seasons, Coach Phil Jacobs has announced his retirement following one of the most successful eras in DHS football history, including the program’s first state finals appearance in 2025. We thank Coach Jacobs for his leadership and lasting impact.
We’re also excited to welcome Rob Schwartz as the new head football coach. A DHS Graduation Coach and key contributor to the program’s success, Coach Schwartz brings continuity, strong relationships, and high expectations as he builds on this historic momentum.
