COMING SOON: A spring update for DHS families — what's coming, and what to expect this fall
Dear DHS Families,
We are thrilled to share that construction on the 2025 Bond projects at Dexter High School is getting underway this summer — and the results are going to be transformative for our students and our community. We know that any major construction comes with some adjustments, and we want to make sure you have the information you need well ahead of the fall.
WHAT'S BEING BUILT
● A brand-new main entrance and fitness room addition — a welcoming, secure front to the school with a state-of-the-art fitness space
● An expanded Career & Technical Education (CTE) facility — giving students hands-on, real-world learning spaces
● A new Field House and major athletic facility upgrades — more on those in future updates
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS FALL
Here's what will look and feel different when you drop off, pick up, or visit DHS in the fall:
🚪 New Temporary Entrance — Door #2
The main front entrance will be closed starting June 15 through the entire 2026–27 school year while the new entrance is being built. The temporary entrance is Door #2, to the right of the commons area. It will have a buzz-in system, and the main office will operate normally from just inside that door.
Plenty of new signage will be in place to help everyone find their way.
🅿 Parking & Drop-Off — Updated Layout
The parking lot is being revamped to support construction. Here's the short version for fall:
● The parent/guardian drop-off loop will be relocated but still dedicated for morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up — see the map below for the updated location
● Visitor parking will be relocated — see the map below for the updated location
● ADA parking will be available in the Staff Lot off Shield Road (upper right on the map), with a clear pedestrian walkway to the building
● The lower parking lot will have restricted access — it's the CTE construction zone. A small number of designated spaces will be available for specific staff only
● Pedestrian walkway — whether from the drop-off loop or student & visitor parking, all pedestrians will walk along the pedestrian walkway (along the fence line) to the temporary entrance (Door #2)
Again — signage will be clear, and we'll share updated maps before the school year begins.
