Dear DCS Families,
Spring has arrived, at least for now, and it’s great to see our students and the entire community outside enjoying the sunshine. As a reminder, spring break is just around the corner. The last day for students is Friday, March 21st and students return to class on April 1st.
On Monday, March 10th, Dexter High School hosted a career fair for students. We are so fortunate to have such an engaged and caring community. In total, 117 community volunteers presented to our students on Monday. Students selected three separate careers to explore and the entire event was such a great representation of the power of a community school district. Thank you to the high school staff who planned the event and thank you to all of the community volunteers who made this event possible.
Below are a few items of note:
- May 2025 Bond: The website is live and is filled with information for our community: https://www.dexterschools.org/2025-bond
- Wylie Principal Opening: Katie See, Wylie Principal, is retiring after an incredible career helping students and serving the entire Dexter community. Katie is one of the best principals I’ve had the pleasure to work alongside and we are working to find the next leader for Wylie Elementary School. The position is currently posted in our jobs portal.
- 2025-2026 School Calendar: The calendar for next school year is part of the negotiations for our collective bargaining agreements and will be out in the near future. To help families plan, school will start on Tuesday, September 2nd. Historically, we’ve always had a half-day for the first day of the school year. The Winter Break will begin at the end of the day on Friday, December 19th and students will return to school on Monday, January 5, 2026. Spring break will begin at the end of the day on Friday, March 27, 2026 and students will return to school on Monday, April 6, 2026.
- Dread Notes: Watch your mailboxes for this year’s DreadNotes, our Art, Music, and Literature News Magazine. Check out all the great work that is happening in our schools!
- Fall Registration: Kindergarten and young five registration is now open, as well as fall registration for all grades. If families register before the end of May, it helps us plan for class sizes and sections. If you have new neighbors, please let them know they can register now!
Thank you for your continued support and Go Dreads!
Sincerely,
Christopher Timmis, Ed.D.
