Champion Learning: Develop, Educate, and INSPIRE!

Superintendent Update 4-25-2025

Dear DCS,

Our campus is hopping with students, families, and community members enjoying the beautiful weather and spring activities.  It is great to see the community utilizing our campus and enjoying what makes Dexter such a wonderful place to live.

Bond Election - May 6th
On the May 6th ballot, DCS has a bond proposal to fund facility improvements and maintenance of our facilities. The proposal has an estimated ZERO INCREASE over the current debt millage rate. Dexter Community Schools has a long history of maintaining our buildings and taxpayer resources while evolving to meet the changing needs of our students and greater community.  We’ve created a slideshow with audio of the full proposal if you would like more information:  Bond 2025 Presentation.  In addition, we have a comprehensive FAQ and information on our Bond 2025 website>. Please remember to vote.

Mamma Mia!
The Dexter High School Drama Club is presenting Mamma Mia! this weekend at the DHS Center for Performing Arts.  Come join our students for an incredible performance.  More information is available at: Mamma Mia! - DEXTER DRAMA CLUB

2025-2026 School Calendar Update
Next year’s school calendar information will be sent in early May once we finalize the negotiations process.  The first day of school will be Tuesday, September 2nd.  The Winter Break will have no school the weeks of December 21st and December 28th.  Spring Break will be the week of March 30th. We are working through the collective bargaining ratification process on the calendar and will send a copy with details to families as soon as that process is completed.

German Exchange
DCS partners with Aventinus-Gymnasium (AVG) in Burghausen, Bavaria, Germany for an annual student exchange.  In October of every year, our students host their German partner in their home and participate in a variety of activities in the area.  Over the summer, our students travel to Germany to stay in the home of their partner and participate in a variety of activities in Germany and Austria.  The cost is generally the cost of the flight and some spending/hosting activity funds.  We are still in need of a few more Class of 2028 (current 9th graders) and Class of 2029 (current 8th graders) students to participate.  If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Craig McCalla at mccallac@dexterschools.org or Ann Pregont at pregonta@dexterschools.org. It truly is an incredible experience for our students and families.

Upcoming Virtual Career Fair
DCS is working behind the scenes to facilitate a “Virtual Career Fair” for our students.  As part of the process, we will be sending out invitations to families, alumni, and community members to submit a short video interview on their career.  There are so many careers for our students to explore that our community members, parents, and alumni work in on a daily basis.  The interview can be done from a phone application and only consists of no more than 5 questions.  We’re hoping to have the process and technology ready in the next couple of weeks.  Please stay tuned and thank you for your support of our students!

Thank you for your continued support of our students and community.  Go Dreads!

Sincerely,

Christopher Timmis, EdD
Superintendent
