Champion Learning: Develop, Educate, and INSPIRE!

Superintendent Update 9-26-2025

Dear DCS Students, Families, and Staff,

The sun is shining, kids are learning, and Al Ritt will be filled with excitement as the Dreadnaught Football team takes on Chelsea tonight.   Below are several updates:

  • Dexter v Chelsea Rivalry Match:  Support the Education Foundation of Dexter! The Education Foundation of Dexter is in its final day of the annual Rivalry Match fundraiser with the Chelsea Education Foundation. Funds raised go directly back into our schools through teacher grants that support learning opportunities for all students. The current donations for each district are posted online at:  https://www.efdexter.org/2025-rivalry-match .  The winning foundation will be announced at tonight’s game.  Help us beat Chelsea while supporting EFD’s support of our classrooms!!!
  • Sex Education Curriculum Review Feedback Sessions - The DCS Sex Education Advisory Board has been working for multiple years to update the district’s sex education curriculum.  As part of the process, we will be hosting two feedback sessions for community members.  The sessions will be held in the Bates Board Room on Tuesday, October 14th at 6 p.m. at Bates and Wednesday, October 22nd at 9 a.m.  Proposed materials will be available for viewing, along with an opportunity to review the curriculum and opt-out procedures for families.  This is the next step in our process.  We value our partnership with our families and value your feedback. Note:  There will not be an online opportunity to review the curriculum.  As a district, we work in partnership with our families, and offering an online review of the materials does not allow us a method to prevent students from seeing the materials without parents having an opportunity to opt their child(ren) out.  In other words, when we offer an online video option, we cannot control that the materials are not viewed by children.  Thank you for your understanding.
  • Student Artwork for the Scoreboard:  Dexter Athletics is looking for pictures, artwork, or images that show off your student’s Dreadnaught Pride. Examples could include a “Go Dreads!” poster, spirit artwork, or any creative design that celebrates Dexter. We’re putting together a slideshow to showcase on the new scoreboard at Al Ritt Stadium before athletic events, and we’d love to feature your student’s work. Please use the following link to share your student's artwork: DCS Student Artwork Submission Form
  • WISD November 4th Career Technical Education Millage:  On November 4, 2025, voters residing within the Washtenaw Intermediate School District’s service area–including Dexter Community Schools–will be asked to consider a 1 mill tax that would support the expansion of Career Technical Education (CTE) learning experiences from preschool through high school graduation. CTE helps students understand why they learn what they learn, from PreK-12. It opens doors to college, careers, and beyond.  If a CTE millage is approved by voters, students in preschool, elementary, middle, and high school would benefit from new programs and expansion of existing programs. To learn more about the Career Technical Education proposal, visit www.washtenawisd.org/ctemillage.
Thank you for your continued support and Go Dreads!
Sincerely,
Christopher Timmis, EdD
Superintendent

P.S.  As always, Beat Chelsea!
