We had a wonderful author visit at Wylie this past week! A huge thank you to our amazing Wylie PTT for their generous support in funding this special experience for our students. We were excited to welcome author Jim Benton, and every student had the opportunity to learn from his creativity, storytelling, and insights into the writing process.
It was an engaging and inspiring experience that helped bring reading and writing to life for our students. We are so grateful for opportunities like this that spark imagination and a love of literacy!

A Visit from Jim Benton
Thanks to a generous grant from the PTT, Wylie students were recently treated to a special visit from New York Times best-selling author and artist Jim Benton. Benton, who also works on films, is a lifelong Michigan resident who studied cartooning at Western Michigan University before returning to his hometown of Birmingham to raise a family. He has been honored with many awards throughout his career, including four Reuben Awards, considered the highest honor in cartooning. Students enjoyed his quick wit, learned a lot about developing story ideas, and asked some great questions.

End of Year Student Celebration Event--June 2nd 4:30-6:30pm
Wylie's wonderful PTT is planning an end of the year celebration for all Wylie students and families on June 2nd from 4:30-6:30. They are still in need of volunteers to help out with this event. Please sign up to help out that evening below.
Wylie families please join us as at the end of the school celebration with games, inflatables, and treats! Everyone is welcome to this free event but we need volunteers to make it a success. Please take a look below and sign up to help. We would appreciate any time or donation!
Future 4th Grade Leadership Opportunities for Next Year!
The current 3rd graders will be given the opportunity to apply to be on the student council or be a school safety for next year. These applications are now available and were passed out this past week in your 3rd grade child's classroom and will be due by June 8.

Wylie Walkers: Place-Based Education Celebration of Learning and Community Event
Many Wylie students have been actively engaged in Place-Based Education to deepen their understanding of the Dexter community, Washtenaw County, and the State of Michigan. To showcase their learning, students will host the Wylie Walk along the path behind Wylie on June 3, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 am (Rain Date: June 4, 2025). During this event, classes will set up interactive stations to present a variety of topics, including:

We would like to invite families to join us in this celebration of learning. Most classes are planning on being outside from 9:00 am-11:00 am. Please reference your student’s classroom communication to confirm their specific time at the event. Although this is an outdoor event, please plan to sign in and out at the Wylie office.
Place Based Education Discovery Lab Coming to Wylie!
We are excited to announce that a Place-Based Discovery Lab is coming to Wylie! This innovative learning space is designed to bring the outdoors inside—giving students a place to explore, question, and investigate the world around them through hands-on, inquiry-driven experiences. Whether launching new learning or extending an “I wonder” question, the lab will immerse students in the study of water, plants, native animals, and the unique environment of our community. It will serve as a hub for curiosity, creativity, and deeper thinking—supporting our commitment to Place-Based Education and meaningful, real-world learning.
This exciting addition would not be possible without the incredible generosity and support of Wylie’s Parent Teachers Together (PTT) and the Dexter Education Foundation (EFD). Their investment in our students is helping to create opportunities that will inspire exploration, foster stewardship, and make learning come alive at Wylie. We are truly grateful for their partnership and dedication to our school community!

Specials in the Spotlight!
P.E. News from Mr. Maki
Over the past several weeks, our students at Wylie have been very active in P.E. We wrapped up our Sport Skill Unit learning the skills needed for tennis and batting. We also had some fun during our team challenge called Travel Log. Students worked in small groups trying to transport a variety of items across the gym using only a 'control stick' and communication and collaboration. We also introduced and learned about Cornhole and Kan Jam. As we transition into warmer weather (hopefully) students will continue to learn several different Summer/Outdoor/Yard games.
