The mission of the Dexter High School counseling department is to provide high quality, comprehensive school counseling services to all students. Our program, as guided by the ASCA National Model, is designed to help all students develop and enhance their academic, career, and personal/social strengths in order to become responsible and productive citizens. There is a commitment to individual uniqueness and the maximum development of human potential. Through the skillful use of strategic, timely, and personal interventions, counselors customize educational experiences in order to enhance capabilities, close achievement gaps among high and low performing groups and support positive choices.

March 23, 2017 – Phil Jacobs has been selected as the next Dexter High School Football Coach.
After several years of coaching at the collegiate level, Phil Jacobs is returning to Michigan High School
Football and is joining Dexter High School to lead the turnaround of the football program. Coach Jacobs
has over 25 years of high school and collegiate coaching experience, including 11 years as a head coach.
Over his career as a head coach, Coach Jacobs’ teams qualified for seven consecutive playoff
appearances, accumulating a 55-21 win-loss record over that timeframe, five SEC titles and two district
titles and regional appearances.
According to Mr. Jacobs, “I feel very privileged to be the head football coach at one of the top school
districts in the state and I can’t thank Dr. Timmis and the Dexter Board of Education enough for
providing me with this incredible opportunity. I very am eager to begin at Dexter as soon as possible, to
spend time with our student-athletes, and to get to work. We will work hard to bring a brand of football
that the Dexter community will be proud of.”
Starting in April, Coach Jacobs will lead the strength and conditioning program for the Dreadnaughts
while teaching at Dexter High School. In 2010, Coach Jacobs was recognized as National Strength and
Conditioning Coach of the Year by American Football Monthly. In addition to success on the athletic
field, Mr. Jacobs has been celebrated as a classroom teacher. In 2011, he was awarded with an Adrian
Public Schools Outstanding Teacher and Mentor Award for his work with students and has been working
as an Instructional Coach facilitating the district’s curriculum and working with fellow teachers on
effective classroom strategies.

coaches in Michigan and promised our kids we would find a successful coach and teacher to lead the
program…Phil Jacobs was at the top of our list…we could not be more ecstatic to have Coach Jacobs
leading the DHS Football Program and teaching our students…Coach Jacobs is an incredible coach,
gifted teacher, and a tremendous role model for our student-athletes…his long career of coaching success
