March 23, 2017 – Phil Jacobs has been selected as the next Dexter High School Football Coach.

After several years of coaching at the collegiate level, Phil Jacobs is returning to Michigan High School

Football and is joining Dexter High School to lead the turnaround of the football program. Coach Jacobs

has over 25 years of high school and collegiate coaching experience, including 11 years as a head coach.

Over his career as a head coach, Coach Jacobs’ teams qualified for seven consecutive playoff

appearances, accumulating a 55-21 win-loss record over that timeframe, five SEC titles and two district

titles and regional appearances.

According to Mr. Jacobs, “I feel very privileged to be the head football coach at one of the top school

districts in the state and I can’t thank Dr. Timmis and the Dexter Board of Education enough for

providing me with this incredible opportunity. I very am eager to begin at Dexter as soon as possible, to

spend time with our student-athletes, and to get to work. We will work hard to bring a brand of football

that the Dexter community will be proud of.”

Starting in April, Coach Jacobs will lead the strength and conditioning program for the Dreadnaughts

while teaching at Dexter High School. In 2010, Coach Jacobs was recognized as National Strength and

Conditioning Coach of the Year by American Football Monthly. In addition to success on the athletic

field, Mr. Jacobs has been celebrated as a classroom teacher. In 2011, he was awarded with an Adrian

Public Schools Outstanding Teacher and Mentor Award for his work with students and has been working

as an Instructional Coach facilitating the district’s curriculum and working with fellow teachers on

effective classroom strategies.

DCS Superintendent Dr. Chris Timmis stated “When we started the search process, we identified the top

coaches in Michigan and promised our kids we would find a successful coach and teacher to lead the

program…Phil Jacobs was at the top of our list…we could not be more ecstatic to have Coach Jacobs

leading the DHS Football Program and teaching our students…Coach Jacobs is an incredible coach,

gifted teacher, and a tremendous role model for our student-athletes…his long career of coaching success

combined with being an outstanding educator make him the ideal leader for our kids…Go Dreads!”
