DHS Counseling Department
The mission of the Dexter High School counseling department is to provide high quality, comprehensive school counseling services to all students. Our program, as guided by the ASCA National Model, is designed to help all students develop and enhance their academic, career, and personal/social strengths in order to become responsible and productive citizens. There is a commitment to individual uniqueness and the maximum development of human potential. Through the skillful use of strategic, timely, and personal interventions, counselors customize educational experiences in order to enhance capabilities, close achievement gaps among high and low performing groups and support positive choices.

We wanted to update you on some traffic you may see near the high school over the break. A portion of the bond projects approved by voters in August included the creation of a new turf athletic surface at DHS and creation of softball/baseball fields to replace those being displaced by the construction of the new elementary school. Initially, up to 20 acres of land at the high school was planned to be cleared for these purposes. Based on feedback we received through bond forums, we created a plan to significantly reduce the number of trees needing to be removed for the fields. The first tree clearing work will begin during winter break because tree removal is one of the most dangerous tasks for contractors. As a result, we will have this work done while students are not in session at DHS. This will allow for maximum safety for our students and the contractors completing the work, as well as reducing any issues associated with the additional truck traffic.
