MPSERS 3% Update from CFO Sharon Raschke
(Excerpts from a staff email dated Feb. 23, 2018. Full email below)
On January 22, the District received the funds from the Office of Retirement Services with a list of who gets how much. There were many questions that needed to be answered as well as we needed a go-ahead from the Court of Claims that the funds could actually be refunded.
The money the ORS has given us was for the 3% mandatory deductions that hit your paychecks between 7/1/2010-8/31/2012. However, school districts were instructed to take the mandatory deductions through 1/31/2013 during the waiting and election period of the voluntary deductions. We will be refunding only what ORS has sent to us and instructed us to refund. The other five months of deductions are still being discussed by the Court of Claims and the plaintiff and the defendants in the case.
