DHS Counseling Department

The mission of the Dexter High School counseling department is to provide high quality, comprehensive school counseling services to all students. Our program, as guided by the ASCA National Model, is designed to help all students develop and enhance their academic, career, and personal/social strengths in order to become responsible and productive citizens. There is a commitment to individual uniqueness and the maximum development of human potential. Through the skillful use of strategic, timely, and personal interventions, counselors customize educational experiences in order to enhance capabilities, close achievement gaps among high and low performing groups and support positive choices.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW TO REGISTER FOR FALL 2020 Y5 & KG

Update 2/26/2020 - the slideshow from information night has been posted. Find it here: dexterschools.org/kgy5

KG and y5 information night details

On February 25th, the Y5-2 principals will host building tours from 6:00pm-7:00pm, followed by an information session. This is the perfect opportunity to ask questions about curriculum, school readiness, and to help you decide whether young 5 or kindergarten would be a better fit for your child. This event is for adults only.

On  March 1st, we will open online pre-registration for  fall  2020. Families should complete the registration information online using the registration gateway at this link: registration.dexterschools.org(Children currently enrolled in Dexter's ECSE program do not need to register online.)

PLEASE NOTE: Completing online registration does not guarantee placement for young 5 -or- for schools of choice students. You must line up on the designated day of roundup for your group. The schools of choice application window dates will be posted on our website in January, 2020 and the first window will be complete prior to Roundup.

March 25th and 26th, we will have kindergarten and young 5 roundup at the elementary buildings. You may come any time during these windows. Because young 5 space is limited, we recommend you come earlier rather than later on the appropriate day.

Young 5 registration is first-come, first-served, and you must attend round-up in order to get a number on the list for available spots.

  • Dexter residents only may line up for young five spots on March 25th (12pm-6:00pm);
  • Previously accepted schools of choice students and remaining Dexter students line up for available young 5 spots on March 26th (7am-1pm).

Students must be five by September 1, 2020  in order to enroll in kindergarten. Families of children who turn five between September 2nd and December 1st may request a waiver after consulting with one of our principals.

Space in our half-day young five classroom is extremely limited. Interested parents will receive numbers in line for the half-day spots at the Roundup. See note above about schools of choice young 5 spots.

Families who do not live in the Dexter School District will have the opportunity to apply for schools of choice status in early March, 2020. Exact dates of the application window will be posted by the end of  January. First priority for young 5 spots goes to current Dexter residents who line up March 25th.
