DHS Counseling Department
The mission of the Dexter High School counseling department is to provide high quality, comprehensive school counseling services to all students. Our program, as guided by the ASCA National Model, is designed to help all students develop and enhance their academic, career, and personal/social strengths in order to become responsible and productive citizens. There is a commitment to individual uniqueness and the maximum development of human potential. Through the skillful use of strategic, timely, and personal interventions, counselors customize educational experiences in order to enhance capabilities, close achievement gaps among high and low performing groups and support positive choices.

Each year, the Dexter Community Schools Board of Education determines the available number of schools of choice spots based on enrollment projections. At its January 13th, 2020 meeting, the Board of Education voted to offer the following schools of choice openings for the 2020-21 school year:
- 30 slots for DHS IB Diploma Programme (10 in 9th grade, 10 in 10th grade, and 10 in 11th grade);
- a minimum of 1 student in each grade level from Young 5/Kindergarten through 8th grade;
- at least one slot for the Virtual School;
- at least one slot for the Early Middle College.
Here is the 2020-21 first window application form.
Complete one for each student and submit during the application window. The first application window for Fall 2020 will be February 26th through the end of the day March 10th. Any remaining spots will be filled during the second application window, which will be in late July/early August. We can only accept applications during the scheduled windows.
