Meet Your Teachers

Lisa Burgess (Math)

This is my 17th year teaching math in Dexter Schools, which recently included four years at DHS. I am now starting my 12th year here at Mill Creek. I have a Bachelor of Science from EMU, with certificates in Secondary Ed. Math and Biology, and a Master’s in the Art of Teaching. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, working out (I am an Ironman), gardening, eating out, watching movies, and just being outside. I enjoyed a trip out west this summer, visiting/hiking some national parks with my husband. I look forward to getting to know and learning from all my students this year.

Amy Grant (History)

Hi there! I’ll be your U.S. History teacher. Together we’ll investigate the hows and whys of our country’s early years and explore some connections between “way back when” and the modern day. My own personal history includes one psychology degree, nine seasons running a summer camp, three years as a special education aide, two years coordinating a reading mentoring program, a few return trips to college (for my English major, teaching certifications, Master’s degree in reading, and history minor), and nineteen years of teaching. Nowadays, I keep busy with my family (husband, three sons, two dogs, and one cat) and with YOU! Being in the classroom engages my mind, challenges my skills, and helps me become a better person every day. I will work hard to create a space that does the same for you. I look forward to facilitating your growth!

Todd Fry (Science)

I will be the science teacher on the team. This will be my 21st year teaching at Mill Creek Middle School. I have a Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University and a Master’s Degree in Science Education from Lawrence Technological University. I enjoy traveling the world, biking, and playing/coaching soccer in my spare time.

Jill Fyke (English)

I’m excited to start my 18th year of teaching in DCS. I graduated from Michigan State University in '87 (GO GREEN!), received my post-BA teaching certification in English and Psychology from Eastern Michigan University in ’01, and completed my master's degree in English Studies for Teachers, also from EMU, in ’11. I recently spent four years teaching at the high school and am thrilled to be back at Mill Creek. In between teaching and coursework, I enjoy reading, writing, camping, and spending time with my husband, Ben, and our two children: Zachary, a recent MSU graduate, and Madison, a recent U of M grad. We are truly a house divided (except when it comes to our wonder dog, Oliver, of course)! Can’t wait to start another great year!

Looking forward to this upcoming school year! Hope you enjoyed your summer! This is my 9th year at Mill Creek as a Teacher Consultant. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree from Western Michigan University and I’m completing a Masters program at Eastern Michigan University. I love spending time with my wife and 2 children. My son, Liam, will be starting third grade this year and my daughter, Lillian, is starting kindergarten. We enjoy Michigan football games, being outside and traveling. I also love playing guitar and coaching sports. I’m excited to be working with you this year!
