Meet Your Teachers

Chris Hoelscher

photo of teacher Chris HoelscherChris Hoelscher (English) – This will be my twelfth year here at Mill Creek Middle school, and I feel so privileged to be a part of such a wonderful school. I graduated from Oakland University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and am currently working toward my Master’s in Educational Studies at OU. When not in the classroom, I enjoy fishing and making my own fishing videos, listening to music, and reading. I love infusing these favorite pastimes into my teachings. I am also an avid Detroit and U of M sports fan. I cannot wait to begin working with you and your child in what I am sure will be a fun and exciting school year!

Jill Jastren

I grew up in Dearborn, Michigan, attended my undergrad at Central Michigan University and completed my Masters program at U of M Dearborn in educational technology. This is my ninth year in the district and my fourth year as a seventh grade teacher. The start of September marks seven years married to my wonderful husband, Nick. We spent our summer with our two kids, Cecilia and Dominick. I love chocolate, coffee, paddle boarding, boating, reading, science, photography, and music.

John Sperendi

This will be my eleventh year teaching in Dexter and seventh year at Mill Creek. When not in the classroom, I enjoy playing music (the bass), working out, reading, camping, and riding bikes with my kids. My wife is a massage therapist and we have two kids, ages 13 and 10.

Freida Steiner

Freida SteinerFreida Steiner (Resource Room/Teacher Consultant) –Freida is an Ann Arbor native who is returning to the area after living in New York City for the past seven years. She attended Barnard College, a small liberal arts school for women in Manhattan, where she studied sociology, education, and race and ethnic studies. For the past three years, Freida has been teaching in the New York City public schools while also attending graduate school for a Master's in teaching. She cares deeply about social justice and strives to help make our world and communities more equitable and inclusive.  While living in Brooklyn, Freida enjoyed fostering kittens, finding the best taco trucks, and spending time in city parks. Now that she is back in Michigan, she hopes to spend way more time outdoors and continue to find all the best food!
